Stay Driven & Plan for 2022

posted in: General 0

In order to stay driven and motivated at year-end, think back on what you have accomplished throughout the year so far.

Look at the goals you are near to achieving. Remind yourself how well you have done and how close you are to completing your goals. Motivational self-talk helps.

Lean on your Support System. Stay connected, stay in touch with friends and family that will keep you motivated and support you.

Remember to ask for help if you need it. Asking for help develops relationships, improves resilience, develops a growth mindset, improves mental health, and shows maturity.

When planning for 2022, don’t get discouraged; take smaller steps, Rome wasn’t built in a day.

Make sure to give yourself time and space to accomplish your goals, be realistic.

Whenever you are setting goals, be willing to change the direction. Remember to plan and prioritize in order to keep things manageable.

Ask yourself: Is this goal relevant? Is this something I intend to accomplish in the future? What is the purpose of this goal? Is this goal reasonable and attainable?

Remember, motivation starts within. Find what works for you.

Never forget that you may fall and trip along the way, but keep your head up high and keep going! Stay focused on the bigger picture and visualize yourself succeeding.

Your Essential Guide to Productivity

How it’s going – 2021

We’ve already completed one month in 2021. How productive have you been so far? I’ve seen so many posts this year with people saying they simply don’t feel motivated or productive at all while using the phrase “February is the new January”. That’s basically the 2021 version of I’ll start next Monday, right?

Let’s Break it Down

Dan S. Kennedy defines productivity as follows:

Enter Your Essential Guide to Productivity: tips with optional further reading links because as we know, “Time is money”. For further motivation (to keep reading), the benefits of productivity include reduced stress, increased engagement and improved self-confidence and who doesn’t want more of all that?

Productivity Tools

Right off the bat lets start with some productivity tools that I use (do you use any of these?):

Trello – for organizing and prioritising projects
Slack – communicate, share files and connect with apps easily
Grammarly – an AI-powered writing assistant that helps with spelling, grammar and more
Google Keep – capture notes and get reminders
Google Docs Editors – Google’s office suite which includes Google Docs, Google Sheets and more
Google Workspace Suite –  collaboration tools like Gmail, Calendar, Meet, Chat, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, Sites and more
Skype / Zoom – video communication and collaboration
AnyDesk / TeamViewer – remote desktop sharing and file transfer
Dropbox – file Storage and Sharing

Productivity Tools are great but in the end, they don’t make you productive they just assist with the process. So what does? One commonality that stands out after research is MINDSET. As we all know the mind is powerful so it’s no surprise that this is the main component for productivity.

Your Essential Guide to Productivity

With only so many hours in the day, you want to use them in the best way right? So, let’s keep it short with 10 Tips:

Start – this one is obvious, to be productive you have to start somewhere
Plan – create a detailed breakdown of how you plan to achieve goals and focus on these
Be Deliberate – be conscious and intentional with your actions
Deadline – set goals with completion dates in mind
Accountability & Tracking – take accountability and track your progress
Workspace – this goes without saying but creating and maintaining a space that assists you without distractions
Take Breaks – breaks help you to de-stress, re-charge and re-focus
Fuel – your body (and brain) needs fuel to perform optimally
Stop Multitasking – according to science multitasking divides your attention and impairs your ability to function optimally
Say No/Delegate – not everything is equally important so prioritize or delegate

In Conclusion

Keep in mind no project or initiative is perfectly planned even though it may seem that way from the outside looking in. Work hard and do your best. Your customers and/or colleagues will tell you where improvements are needed which means you’ll get the opportunity to improve things that actually matter.

In the name of #KeepingitReal and #Authenticity, I personally struggle with taking breaks, not multitasking, saying no/delegating and on top of that I am a perfectionist. If you’re the same, remember you are a work in progress so don’t beat yourself up when you fall short. Get up, dust yourself off and remember consistency is key. Find methods/techniques that work best for you and you’ll see changes.

“Gandaganda Matiyo, Gandaganda Matiyo!”

posted in: General 0

“Gandaganda Matiyo, Gandaganda Matiyo!”

A typical child that grew up in a township like myself would remember this rhyme when spotting a Gandaganda.

Okay, today’s blog‘s focus is not only on the Gandaganda (Tractor) but on All Heavy Plant and Machinery or better known as “Heavy Duty Vehicles” i.e. Heavy Trucks, Construction Equipment, Heavy Vehicles and Heavy Hydraulics, (things one would not normally think of if you’re not exposed to the construction industry).

These Machines can be referred to as a Foundation to any building structure from conceptual stages right until completed. I say so because of its involvement in the process from ground works until we see the beauty of the structure. With the growing industrialization of Construction works, the role on site, equipment and machineries is vital in achieving productivity and efficiency. This making the works seem much simpler while reducing the amount of manual labour.

The use of heavy equipment has a long history: The ancient Roman engineer Vitruvius (1st century BCE) gave descriptions of heavy equipment and cranes in ancient Rome. The pile driver was invented around 1500. The first tunneling shield was patented by Marc Isambard Brunel in 1818

From this Gandaganda,

To this.

Heavy equipment is used in different ways and can be divided into four major components:

• Earth – moving Equipment
• Construction Vehicles
• Material Handling
• Construction Equipment

There are several variations of construction equipment, but the ones listed below are the most commonly used by contractors.

1.Excavators

Excavators are large construction equipment that can be available over wheels or tracks.

Functions: Material handling, digging of trenches, holes and foundations, Brush cutting with hydraulic attachments, Demolition, Rough grading, Heavy lifting and pipe installation, Mining and River dredging

2.Backhoe Loaders

Backhoe loaders are very similar to tractors with a slight difference: They contain an adjustable shovel in front and a small bucket at the back used for digging.

Function: They can move dirt, backfill, dig trenches and place smaller pipes into place. One of the best attributes of backhoe loaders is that they are tyre mounted and they can be used in urbanized areas and patios. The bucket in the back can be modified using different attachments allowing you to dig trenches of different widths.

3.Bulldozers

Bulldozers have a wide flat blade in front that can be operated using two hydraulic pistons allowing the blade to be moved in limited angles or depths

Function: They are normally used to push piles of earth and for rough/fine grading depending on the size of the bulldozer. Its weight can be used to crush larger boulders among other actions.

4.Asphalt Paver

Asphalt Paver is a piece of construction equipment used to lay asphalt on roads, bridges, parking lots and other such places.

Function: It lays the asphalt flat and provides minor compaction before it is compacted by a roller.

Now when you see a Gandaganda, or such machines as mentioned above, respect them and the people sitting behind them, as the world is a beautiful place because of their existence!!
