How To: Check/Update your Web Browser

posted in: How To 0

If you’ve previously been assisted by L2B Customer Support you may have been requested to confirm which Browser you’re using and if it’s up to date. As per our FAQ’s: To access our service you need to have the latest update/version installed for browsers such as Edge, Chrome or Firefox and the appropriate hardware and operating system to support this.

Why do we ask you this?

Firstly, the Browser type helps us to identify if you’re using a supported browser and if there is an issue it helps us identify if it’s an issue specific to a type of browser

Secondly, Browser updates introduce new features, improve performance and fix security vulnerabilities. They are also necessary for improving compatibility, fixing security loopholes, and resolving numerous bugs and other issues. Basically, websites may not work properly if your browser hasn’t been updated so in order to resolve your query it’s best for us to rule this out.

Google Chrome

By default, Google Chrome is set to update itself automatically so the new versions will typically install as and when they’re released. If Chrome downloaded automatic updates while you were using the browser, you’d need to relaunch the browser to finish installing the updates.

  1. Click on the ellipsis at the top-right and select Help > About Google Chrome. Alternatively, you can paste the following address into the URL bar: chrome://settings/help

  1. You’ll see the current version of Google Chrome installed on your PC. If you also see a message that reads Chrome is up to date, you already have the latest version. If Chrome finds any available updates, it will automatically install them, and you’ll see a Relaunch button next to it. Click on it to restart the Chrome browser, and you’ll now have the latest version of Chrome.

Mozilla Firefox

Just like Chrome, Firefox automatically installs updates as and when they become available. If you have reason to believe you’re not running the latest version, check the current version and see if there are any updates available for Firefox by following the process illustrated below.

  1. Click the hamburger icon at the top right of the browser and select Help > About Firefox.
  1. You’ll see a pop-up window. If a new update is available, Firefox will automatically start downloading the update. Once the updates are installed, you’ll see a button that says Restart to Update Firefox. Click on it to restart Firefox, and you’ll now have the latest version installed. If you see a message that reads Firefox is up to date, you already have the latest version.

Microsoft Edge

  1. Select the horizontal ellipsis at the top right of the Edge browser and select Help and feedback About Microsoft Edge.
  1. Edge will automatically check for software updates, and start downloading them if they’re available. Once it downloads the updates, you’ll need to click on the Restart button. Doing this will restart your internet browser and install the latest updates. If you see a message that reads Microsoft Edge is up to date, you already have the latest version.

If your browser is up to date and you’re still experiencing issues you may need to clear your browser cache, cookies & history.

A Good Cause

“It is not how we give but how much love we put into giving” – Mother Teresa.

There is nothing more rewarding than being able to help another being, whether it be a person, an animal or anything else that is close to your heart. In my personal experience, I’ve had the privilege of fostering dogs and it is something that I will cherish forever, probably do for the rest of my life, and always try to encourage others to try. I have never felt a more fufilled, enriched feeling in my life, knowing that I played a small positive part in another’s life.

I believe life is about giving and not taking. Giving has been proven to decrease blood pressure and reduce stress. This makes absolute sense to me, it’s a no-brainer. It feels good right down to your soul when you are able to give. Giving is an absolute selfless act and should never be done wanting a return. Giving is contagious and inspires others to do the same.

There are thousands and thousands of non-profit organisations and charities in South Africa that you can get involved in as an individual or as a company. Donations or volunteering allows companies to take interest in their own communities and can also increase team spirit and morale. If a company chooses to make a corporate donation, workplace values can improve with increased employee involvement and a positive attitude.

Take time to choose the correct organisation that your company would like to donate to. Making contributions to charities that truly mean a lot to your business, whether it be for children in need, advocating to protect the environment, or helping animals in need, is better than just doing it for the sake of making contributions. You might find more than one organization or charity that fits your business, and if you are able to, provide contributions to multiple charities.

There are various benefits of a company supporting a non-profit organisation or a charity:

  • Staff will feel good about working for a company that gives back
  • Customers/clients are more likely to feel good about supporting a company that donates to charity / NPO which could then lead to a more loyal customer base
  • Charitable giving shows that you give back to the community and are in business for more than profit
  • There is more to donating to charity than receiving tax benefits.

There are different ways that a business can donate to charity. Although monetary donations are the most common, there are many other options. Let’s have a look:

  • Volunteering: Instead of giving money, donate your time. Volunteer as a company at a soup kitchen, at an animal shelter, picking up litter on our beautiful beaches and so many more. It is often so much more rewarding giving your time.
  • Volunteer work offers many of the same benefits as a generous monetary gift, and it sends a strong, positive message to customers and your business community.
  • A charity drive: Start a collection, a food drive, a blanket drive, gathering toiletries for a homeless shelter and the list goes on;
  • Donate online: Set up a monthly debit order, which allows you to donate to a charity every month.

Charity teaches the next generation about generosity.

Generosity creates a more compassionate, community-focused world. Showing and enlightening children about the value of generosity and selflessness makes it more likely they will continue to give as they grow older. Teaching children to care about others is an important life lesson. When children see you give whether it be monetary or by volunteering, they will grow up knowing that giving back is such an important and selfless thing to do.

Charity is also important as it raises awareness of issues that many may not even know about and gives companies and individuals the power to do something about them.

In Conclusion, most people want to help those around them. If you are passionate about something, whatever it may be, get involved. We often think about how can someone as small and insignificant as ourselves can make a difference, but if everyone did something small in some way, it will then make an enormous difference. Change happens when people stand together! Charities need your help to continue their selfless initiatives and giving can feel just as good as receiving!

Difference between an Africa Tender & SA Tender

At Leads 2 Business we have two different research Departments in Tenders; South Africa and Africa.

In the Africa Department, we research in 17 different counties. Examples of areas of coverage include Angola, Botswana, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Eswatini (Swaziland), Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe. These tender opportunities are intended for our clients whose primary business focus is in Africa or alternately for those who wish to expand their company’s coverage, serviceable regions and scope of work into Africa.

Tender notices are sourced throughout Africa via our extensive network of newspapers, online resources and personal contacts. Should a tender be in another language we translate it into English as a courtesy for our subscribers.

Key considerations to our research team are content, timeous acquisition of tender information and the critical details that facilitate ease of communication, more specifically: telephone numbers, postal addresses and e-mail addresses of the contacts on the tender.

In Africa, it is common for a non-refundable fee to be charged to obtain Tender Documents. Africa Tenders also require us to specify “Local Time” next to the closing date and/or site inspection because of the time difference and subscribers must also take note of the dialling codes for the specific region.

Below are examples of an SA Tender and an Africa Tender View:

We also offer different services at Leads 2 Business depending on which regions you’d like to receive Leads for (all prices exclude VAT):

Tenders South Africa                            R 1200.00 per month
Tenders Africa                                      R 1443.48 per month
Tenders (South Africa and Africa)         R 2069.57 per month
Projects (South Africa and Africa)         R 2556.52 per month

20 Productivity & Positivity Hacks for the Workplace

posted in: General 0

Being productive doesn’t just mean working hard, it also means working smart. Productivity is one of the key factors that determine your professional success and happiness. Having the ability to consistently produce high-quality work can lead to career advancement as well as personal development.

Here are 20 Productivity & Positivity Hacks for the Workplace :

Positivity – Attitude is everything! If you don’t think you can do it, why should anybody else? Maintaining a positive attitude will significantly increase your productivity.

Plan – The first step toward being productive is to plan out your day ahead of time. Write down everything you need to do so you can stay on track and know what to focus on next. This removes all uncertainty, and there is less chance of you drifting away and wasting time because you don’t know what you’ll do next.

Start Your Day With a Tough or Easy Task – The way you begin your day determines how the rest of the day will take shape. You can either begin by completing the most difficult task first, making everything else feel easier, or begin by completing the simplest task first, gaining valuable momentum.

A Dedicated Workspace – If you are working from home or remotely, create a dedicated workspace where you’ll go to work and leave once you’re finished.

Use an Important/Urgent Matrix –  An effective time management tool called Important/Urgent Matrix or Eisenhower Matrix helps prioritize tasks on the basis of how important or urgent they are. The matrix divides tasks into four different quadrants – Important & Urgent, Important & not urgent, Not important & urgent, Not important & not urgent. This method ensures you spend your time effectively as well as efficiently.

Plants – Placing one of these green-leaved friends on your desk holds all sorts of amazing effects. Studies have shown that they improve concentration and productivity by up to15%, and not just that, plants reduce stress levels, boost your mood,

Light & Air – Studies in neuroscience have been done on the advantages of natural light. In fact, it has been demonstrated that having a view of the outside can improve performance at work. Employees that work near a window do better in terms of remaining on target, engaging more with their work, and displaying greater devotion to their employer. A 15% decrease in absenteeism has been linked to better workplace lighting, including both natural sunshine and artificial light, according to HOK, a multinational design, architecture, and engineering business. Our capacity to assimilate information and come to wise conclusions is also influenced by Fresh Air.

Move – Try to get up and move at least once an hour. A break gives your mind the opportunity it needs to recover from intense concentration.

Hydrate – A 3-4% drop in water intake can lead to a (up to) 50% drop in productivity. Make sure you and your team are drinking enough (no, coffee doesn’t count).

Use Templates – Create templates for routine tasks that are created the same way each time. This saves a lot of time and improves overall productivity.

Group Similar Tasks – Stack similar tasks so you can complete them with the same mindset. This ensures a smooth workflow and helps you get more done in less time.

Avoid Multitasking – It may be tempting to do two things at once, but multitasking does more harm than good. Research shows that about 98% of people aren’t focused on one task, so multitasking makes them less productive.

Use the “One and Done” Rule – Most of us tend to set aside some tasks and think about taking care of those later but they often don’t get done. To avoid this, add each new task to your to-do list so you don’t forget it later.

Eliminate Distractions –  When we get distracted, we waste a lot of time trying to refocus on the task at hand. By removing distractions, you can do more productive work in less time.

Wake Up Early – Get a head start on your day; a lot of work can be done early in the morning when there are fewer distractions than at noon.

Follow Deadlines – Try to complete the task within allocated time. Knowing that deadlines are approaching increases productivity.

Let Go of Perfectionism – Nothing is perfect, so don’t waste time trying to make every task perfect. Once you’ve done enough, move on to the next task.

Learn to mindfully say “No” – Saying “yes” and taking on too much will can harm your mental health and affect the quality of your work. If you find yourself constantly working late or bringing work home with you, then you no longer have a healthy work-life balance. This may also cause you to resent your job and create a negative work environment. Saying “no” mindfully will ensure that when you are asked to do something and don’t have the time, you’ll know how to say it politely and effectively. For example: “Unfortunately, I’m at capacity. I’ll let you know if my schedule frees up.”

Listen to Productive Music – Music is a great therapy for staying focused and staying productive.

Identify the ‘Why’ Behind Your Job – Ask yourself why you chose your job. Keep these reasons in mind at work to stay motivated to be productive and successful at work.

Infographic: What is a Smart City

A smart city uses cloud-based data and technology to create a more efficient, sustainable, and better quality of life for the people who live there. A smart city alleviates traffic jams and improves resource management by “talking” to its citizens to make data-informed decisions in real time. Smart cities are not a shiny thing of the future: they’re ever-present today.

According to the IDC, smart city technology is expected to grow to $135 billion by 2021. If flying taxis or driverless cars are our future transportation, smart cities are taking population growth and urbanization risks by storm.

Below, we assess the benefits of smart cities and how they can improve the lives of their citizens. For a look at what exactly makes a city “smart” and the world’s leading smart cities, jump to the infographic.

What makes a city a smart city?

A smart city, also called an eco-city or sustainable city, has a system of sensors, networks, and applications to collect data that help connect and improve the city.

To address issues as diverse as traffic congestion and energy use, a smart city uses Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Internet of Things (IoT) systems to connect the data that optimizes every layer of the city. This data helps trigger actions to streamline urban services, reduce costs, and improve people’s overall quality of life.

Think of it like this: the city talks to you. It tells waste management when a trash bin needs to be emptied or commuters when there’s an open parking spot nearby.

The data also improves communication between the people who live there, the city, and the government. This connectivity helps build a more efficient and sustainable infrastructure. In some cities, a mobile app is used where citizens can check updates in real-time.

Why do we need smart cities?

According to the UN, over 40 megacities with more than 10 million people will exist by 2020, with 68% of the world population projected to live in urban areas by 2050. While some megacities are already struggling to deal with the influx of residents, smart cities are a solution to help make urban areas easier to live in. Better yet, they can help create a more sustainable future.

Jesse Berst, the Chairman of the Smart Cities Council, said it best: “Cities are our hope for the future. If you’re in the U.S. or Europe, 80 percent of us live in cities already. We can’t solve the planet’s problems unless we solve them in cities.”.
